Description: sounds weird, but just work with me

klimdeeni - July 7, 2005 05:51 AM (GMT)
I've found many rare songs since I left here so many months ago.
I'm just wondering what songs you've stumbled upon and what songs you're still looking for
i have found songs from "When Tornadoes Take Over The World" to "Hell Hotel" to all of the "house of mayors" CD
anyone else have any rare finds?
perhaps we could share

Doodles - July 8, 2005 03:43 AM (GMT)
Your topic has only been up for seventeen hours (at the time you posted the above), and not everyone has rare tracks.

Be patient.

klimdeeni - July 8, 2005 05:43 AM (GMT)
ok then
I'm use to quick responses i guess
I'll just check back every now and then :P

pnihill2000 - July 8, 2005 09:53 PM (GMT)

I guess I could get some rare tracks from TMBG Clock Radio

gianthead - July 9, 2005 08:11 AM (GMT)
rare live tmbgs can sometimes be found here:

http://www.ncplus.net/~tdk/mp3g-m.html

though I can't find Flansy singing Tainted Love by Soft Cell, which must be fairly rare. anyone got that one?

I palindrome I, born on the fourth of July?

Doodles owns a copy of the DAS version. Flansy sings it... Just have to figure out which one of my computers it's on.

klimdeeni - July 10, 2005 02:29 PM (GMT)
WOW you have it doodles?
I'd be happy to share some of mine in exchange for that one :D

Doodles - July 10, 2005 07:01 PM (GMT)
I have a lot of other DAS recordings... The original Birdhouse, The Next Plane to London (quoted many a time on my blog, I might add), No Answer, Hodgeman, and some other... stuff. I don't remember.

gianthead - July 15, 2005 08:34 AM (GMT)
How rare is the Rocket Ship version of Spiralling Shape?

klimdeeni - July 16, 2005 07:25 AM (GMT)
well you can get it from the clock radio and it's not illegal to swipe it cuz it's not on a CD so......not very rare

Just because it isn't on CD doesn't mean that it isn't illegal to take it. Essentially, 'swiping', as you put it, a song from an artist without them offering it to you for free is "illegal".

It's still their property whether it has been in physical form or not.

klimdeeni - July 19, 2005 06:17 AM (GMT)
hmm
good point
*hides under blanket*
now i'm safe from the law
*swipes*

isn't them putting it on the clock radio and then incouraging people to download it like giving them the songs?

Clock Radio R-A-D-I-O. Radio stations and internet radio stations encourage you to listen to them, just like the Clock Radio does. Do they encourage you to steal the songs you hear them play?

If your answer is no, you are correct. Thank you for playing.

...No. You don't get a prize.

klimdeeni - July 20, 2005 01:23 AM (GMT)
hey we don't have to make this a fight we're just talking here
if they wanted me to just listen to the song, then they got there wish
that's all i do with their songs
i don't claim them as my own

and if it's wrong then oh well
i'm a bad person
so sue me

There were never any implications of a fight... Statements were made back and forth. I daresay that sounds like a conversation. :P

El Zilcho - July 20, 2005 10:09 PM (GMT)
But! Consider this. Morally, is it wrong to swipe songs from Clock Radio? It's not any more wrong than recording a TV show.

Now, if he were selling the song that he swiped, I'd say that's wrong. If TMBG were selling these songs and he was making it available for free, I'd say that's wrong. Sharing music They give for free? Not a big deal in the long run, eh?

klimdeeni - July 21, 2005 01:38 AM (GMT)
doodles-ok then, the post before that one seemed a bit snappy to me, but if you didn't mean it to be, then that's cool too

el zilcho-that's EXACTLY what i was trying to say. i just couldn't form the words for it. thanks

oh and this qouted from the wiki by someone who works at TMBG

OUR VERY FIRST LEGAL DISCLAIMER

In light of recent events, we here at tmbg.com want to remind everyone that They Might Be Giants offer the TMBG Clock Radio and free Mp3s to their audience out of respect and love for their support. Please do not take their stuff and disseminate it in ways that will only crush their spirit of generosity. Do not feel compelled to overthink this. Enjoy the music in the spirit and the form it was given. It's a gift to you-not content to be exploited.

Sincerely-the staff of tmbg.com (http://www.tmbg.com).

I personally don't like to take the MP3's from the radio. I've done it and every time I've feeled as if I've abused the program. It's really tempting though...

El Zilcho - July 21, 2005 04:20 AM (GMT)

I made that point above.

Enjoy the music in the spirit and the form it was given.
The form it was given in is the mp3's sitting in my temp folder. God forbid I double click one.

It's a gift to you-not content to be exploited.
Who's exploiting anything? What's the difference between hearing songs randomly and hearing them when I want to hear them? If I want to hear Bloodmobile, should I open the mp3 on my hard drive, or should I keep listening to the radio and wait for it to open the exact same file itself? If this is the distinction They were trying to make, I don't think they have a leg to stand on.

Personally, I'm not going to change the way I listen to the music. I'm not worried about hurting someone's feelings, and I don't feel bad for someone who would make their songs readily available, then say "no, you can only listen to them the way we tell you to." Furthermore, this is coming from people who have made a living on the idea of doing whatever the hell they feel like and making every song they have available to the public. Do you think they're not going to let you sit at the cool kid's table if you like to listen to Clowntown in WinAmp or iTunes? Psh.

pnihill2000 - July 22, 2005 01:51 AM (GMT)
I guess in the end it really just comes down to what you feel is right :P ;)

klimdeeni - July 22, 2005 05:38 AM (GMT)
wow, im glad el zilcho stepped in
i feel alot less bad about taking them now

but i hear where you other people are coming from too

....but it's so tempting to have them all there in my pocket instead of on my computer

so im going with my gut on this one :D

Doodles - July 22, 2005 12:31 PM (GMT)
I was not verbally chastising anyone for taking mp3s, nor do I intend to. I was stating what would be, by law, correct. It is a very tentative subject, and I guarantee you that I do not abide to every rule of it either.

I merely hand out facts from a disconnected view point. Most of my time is spent doing that.

JoyGerhardt - July 22, 2005 04:31 PM (GMT)
Hey, knowledge is power. :P

And I was merely explaining my point of view on the morality of the facts you handed out. It just sounds way cooler when I act like someone disagrees with me and attack an imaginary foe. :D

pnihill2000 - July 24, 2005 02:03 PM (GMT)
oh heres a cool song: Bird house in your soul
It's not sung by TMBG though
http://www.archivestowearpantsto.com/track...n_your_soul.mp3

Johnw - July 24, 2005 02:12 PM (GMT)
Freaky... that guy's singing kinda creeps me out!

klimdeeni - July 24, 2005 03:33 PM (GMT)
wow that was scary
didn't like that very much at all
sounds like he's trying to be too serious about it or something
it picks up a bit towards the end
but still....pretty weird

pnihill2000 - July 24, 2005 09:07 PM (GMT)
Yea, the website from that's pretty cool, you can request songs, and they'll play them in there "style". For better or worse. I like the original version better, but ya i like though how during the end of this song when they get rid of everything except the guitars and sing like that.

i'll probably get someone shaking there finger at me for reviving this topic yet again, but STILL no response. Now either you don't wanna say "I don't like you and don't wanna give you the song, so take a hint and leave me alone" or you have over looked my question twice now. Please give me a...

"I'm not giving it to you, drop it now"

or...

"oh I didn't notice you ask, here you go"

or even...

"fine then, here's your song, now leave me alone"

or if you don't wanna be rude about it, you could allways lie and say...

"I don't have the song anymore, sorry"

but please tell me something so I don't think you're just ignoring me
I've allready offered to trade any song/s that I have, but you still havn't even given me a yes or no

thanks for your time
feel free to shake your head and/or fingers at me

Doodles - September 4, 2005 02:45 PM (GMT)
You're going to have to realise that you have to be patient with me. I moved over the summer and the computer with all of my music and personal files is still unoperational. Everything is really :censored: up right now, so you just have to continue to wait. I don't have any of my files that I usually use for school, and I've been having to use my brother's laptop in order to get anything accomplished. It's rather hard, and I'm still adjusting to everything.

Just keep in mind that you'll get the song eventually. I have to wait to get all of my important documents and applications back, so you can wait to have your little song.

If you detect any note of bitterness in my above post, I apologise. I'm not exactly the happiest person in the world as of late... Just, it's nothing against you. Pay me no mind.

klimdeeni - September 4, 2005 04:45 PM (GMT)
that didn't sound bitter at all
I just wish I knew that earlier so I didn't feel ignored lol
I understand completly
hopefully I didn't sound too bitter either on mine
I was a bit annoyed, but it's all good now I guess
anyway, thanks for being understanding and not pissed off that I got frustrated
i'm done typing now

LoveJohnX2 - September 6, 2005 05:26 AM (GMT)
I know, I'm lagging behind but..Gianthead..didn't I GIVE you Flansy singing "Tainted Love" from my Columbus Show? They did a spin-the dial and he messed up all the words.

I gave it to someone around here.

klimdeeni - September 6, 2005 06:13 AM (GMT)
*raises hand* that would be me you gave it too
and started that argument over something I don't wanna bring back up
soooo....yea, I have it
well I have the link you gave me
I never downloaded it, cuz I felt too guilty to take it after I knew you didn't really want me to have it
I still have the link I think if you need it
but it probably is a dead link now
