Title: Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players
Description: Genius or garbage?
Herring - June 1, 2005 06:08 PM (GMT)
I really rate this band, but what do others think?
[In case you don't know, Jason Trachtenburg (the creative force in the band) contributes the cover of 'Dr Worm' on the TMBG tribute album.]

This deafening silence suggests one of two things. Either I've been sent to the forum equivalent of Coventry, or none of you guys know what I'm talking about! Assuming it's the latter, this is how they describe themselves:
"TRACHTENBURG FAMILY SLIDESHOW PLAYERS are an indie-vaudeville conceptual art-rock pop band. We take vintage slide collections that have been found at estate sales, garage sales, thrift stores, etc., and turn the lives of annonymous strangers into pop-rock musical exposes based on the contents of these slide collections."

For a quick taster try
Mountain Trip to Old Japan, 1959.
Enjoy!

Definitely the latter for me...
Herring - June 2, 2005 08:48 PM (GMT)
Hooray! I got a response! Maybe not the response I was hoping for, but a response all the same...
Did I mention that they supported TMBG a few years back?
Doodles - June 2, 2005 08:49 PM (GMT)
I know of them, but I've never actually heard anything by them... And them supporting TMBG is how I know them.
But seeing as I've never been to a concert, my chances of having seen them are rather lacking, aren't they? :P

I am aware of their existence, and I'm sure I've heard Rachel sing on someone else's song, but thats my limit thus far.
Rare I get stumped on a band. Congratulations.

I wasn't aware that the object of this forum was to stump the other members. Man, if I'd known that I could have had some real fun! :P
Anyway, as I got GerryW without even trying, do I get a special prize?

It seems these nutters are playing in Cambridge in a few weeks. I couldn't be bothered seeing if it is part of a national campaign, or tour I believe the Young Folks call them, but it might well be. Then again, it might well not be.
Am I going? Dunno, but as I was sipping posh tea in the sun this morning in town, watching the world, the only noise being the click-clack of office-chick chic high heels down the cobbled street, I was flicking through The Junction's latest schedule, wondering whether to buy the latest Neil Young long player, and resisting buying a distortion pedal of such immense-itude that the world would end if I turned the amp up to eleven. But the chicks were hot, the coffee was drunk, and there were roads not taken which I ought to have travelled down.
