Title: Istanbul on the Simpsons
Doodles - March 21, 2005 01:33 AM (GMT)
I just caught the end of the new Simpsons episode for this week. They were playing Istanbul (Not Constantinople) by none other than our guys the Johns.
Just thought I'd share. :D

Saw it too. I was going to make a topic about it, but Arrested Development came on...

Yeah I was watching the last bit of the Simpsons tonight and though this isn't big news, they played a clip of Istanbul at the end. The family was on a turkish boat and the episode closed out with a little bit of the song.
Did anybody else see it?

It's in the Anything section.

Anyways, when I heard Istanbul playing I turned around and thought my computer had started playing it. It's just that you usually don't hear too many TMBG songs on the tube.

I have'nt seen it,but I got this in a TMBG newsletter emailed to me today:
From Flansburgh:
"Just 12 hours since we fell off our collective couches watching the Simpsons last night. The new episode ended with Istanbul, Not Constantinople. Very exciting (but why are we always the last to know about this stuff?)!
Who else got this? It also included:
They Might Be Giants In-Store Mission Statement:
To strive for excellence in an overcrowded but safe family-friendly atmosphere
that is as musically stimulating and emotionally unavailable
as They Might Be Giants' adult shows,
with no Raffi after taste.
 :rocks:

I got that... mentions Them working on Their 11th album. :)
detroit skaboy - March 22, 2005 05:51 PM (GMT)
now heres one i remeber on tiny toons when they did a episode where they did istanbul and particle man the whole song as a animated video :)
HayisforHorses - March 22, 2005 10:12 PM (GMT)
That's the longest sentence I have ever seen, and it's still going!
Anywho, wouldn't someone from The Simpsons have to ask someone from TMBG to be able to play this song? I'm kind of wondering why it was a surprise to them.
mrhorrible - March 22, 2005 10:21 PM (GMT)
Nah, someone from The Simpsons would have to ask Elektra Records. Do you not understand record deals?
HayisforHorses - March 22, 2005 10:24 PM (GMT)
I guess not.
Show me the way!

I quite like how Flansy described it in the newsletter. "Fell off our collective couches". ^_^ It must have been a rather nice surprise for them considering they're all large fans of the Simpsons.

Maybe I"m insane ( ) but I dont' think they need to ask anyone's permission to use the song as long as they only use a very small fraction of it.
