Title: My personal "Best Of" Album
Description: I got the idea from "Album Merge"

El Zilcho - March 15, 2005 02:13 AM (GMT)
I'm very big on ranking songs and making good, flowing mixes. I think I've created the best "Best Of" album for me to listen to, based only on the first 4 albums. You may not agree with some of my choices, but that's the kind of discussion I hope to spark.

I call it "2 Johns." The other one will have the albums from John Henry to Spine (once I get Mink Car), and it will be called "3 Dans."

Well, I think it's funny.

(There used to be a list here, but it blew. I apologize for any inconvenience.)

The whole thing clocks in at an hour nineteen seconds, well within the realms of a CD-R.

Questions? Comments? Want to share any mixes you're proud of?

I live off of my laptop and my iPod, so I never really burn any cd's, but i would buy yours.

Woah woah woah! You're way off!

You don't have Puppet Head, Mr. Me, Kiss Me Son of God, Hotel Detective or even Purple Toupee on there!!!

Sigh....

You left out all my favorites...

Here'd be my mix for the first four albums:

-Don't Let's Start
-I Palindrome I
-Hide Away Folk Family
-Ana Ng
-Someone Keeps Moving My Chair
-Mr. Me
-The Guitar
-Kiss Me Son of God
-Put Your Hand Inside the Puppet Head
-Purple Toupee
-Istanbul (Not Constantinople)
-(She Was A) Hotel Detective
-Statue Got Me High
-She's An Angel
-Snowball in Hell
-Nothings Gonna Change My Clothes
-Birdhouse in Your Soul

I was hesitant to put Istanbul on there.... But I felt like I had to....

Otherwise, yeah, there's the best of the first four (minus all the great EP songs of this era...)

I made sure no songs from the same album were one right after the other, and I always thought Birdhouse would be a better closer than opener...

So lemme see your mix for the next 5 albums (sans Mink Car)

Ok, I'd be more tempted to buy Silver 2D's just because it has puppet head on it, which is one of my most favorite songs ever.

Which Hotel Detective?

Yeah, I'm glad someone noticed. I don't really like any of those songs.

Now, before I get attacked by a lynch mob, you should know that I started getting into Them with Experimental Film, and I was really looking for more songs with that kind of feel. I'm not a big fan of the heavy 80's sound that was so prevalent in the early days. Puppet Head, Hotel Detective, and Purple Toupee, while all good songs, just aren't my cup of tea and shouldn't be included in my personal list. Mr. Me never really got me going, and Hotel Detective was just... too... out there. As much as I like Their quirkyness, that took it a little too far in my opinion.

Anyway. I've just gotten Mink Car and made a new playlist. Disclaimer: The CD's I'm using are John Henry, Factory Showroom, Mink Car, and The Spine. I don't have any others from this time period, like No! or Long Tall Weekend or anything.

(There used to be a list here, but it blew. I apologize for any inconvenience.)

EDIT: I put this on iTunes, but apparently, the mix is awful. If you still want to see my colossal failure in action, then too bad. I've already deleted it to avoid further embarassment.

In closing, go away.

Err......The Dans weren't there for John Henry....

...Or Factory Showroom....

Name = Fail

As for your mix.....it has a lot of their worst stuff on there (Even though TMBGs worst could fill a 5-Star album...)

And the fact that it doesn't have Museum of Idiots makes me cry....

fingertipsjjddm - March 17, 2005 01:04 AM (GMT)
someone please explain to me why everyone loves museum of idiots.

Alright. I'm wrong. My bad.

To elaborate, I thought that as soon as they had a full band, they had the three Dans. I was wrong. Sorry for any inconvenience/confusion/making myself look like an ass.

Also, sorry for the crappy mixes. I suppose I should know better than to tell people who obviously love the band so much more than I do what songs they should listen to. It was wrong of me to judge.

I should really have known that a lot of my favorite TMBG songs are considered the worst by hardcore fans. I guess I'm not a real fan if I only focus on the songs that spoke to me. I should have known better.

I never cared about the punch or pie. I just thought people would care a bit more. I was wrong. So excuse me if I don't hang around to talk about which way Flans' hair is flipped, or what kind of potato chip Linnell is.

In conclusion, I hate you all. Especially Silver.

So long.

EDIT: It was wrong of me to close this thread and prevent others from sharing good lists. Talk amongst yourselves.

Now, for a change, I didn't think there was anything particularly upsetting or rude about any of the posts in this topic. All the posts were focussed on the subject matter of the topic, nothing aimed at a poster.

El Zilcho, I liked your list. And in fact, I have one of my own poised for posting. You are most welcome to come back to defend your misbegotten notions ^_^ , while talking like this.
