Title: Why don't you guys like S-E-X-X-Y?
Description: I do....

Silver2D - March 1, 2005 04:05 AM (GMT)
I think it's a great song.... but I've lately been noticing that I am easily wooed by any song that is either fast, or has violins.... or both!!!!!!

Anyway...

Discuss.

mrhorrible - March 1, 2005 04:10 AM (GMT)
There is at least one forum member who rates it extremely highly *couchJencough*, and probably many more.

Myself, I'm afraid it doesn't really grab me. But you may notice my preferred "type" of song when trawling through the forum. You could say I'm more romantically inclined when it comes to Their songs.

Silver2D - March 1, 2005 04:13 AM (GMT)
Hm.....

Another thing (commence rant) - Why is Purple Toupee so under-rated around these parts?

'Twas my favorite song of theirs for a long time... (I Palindrome I took over with a boot to the jaw...)

SweetAfton23 - March 1, 2005 05:31 AM (GMT)
I like S-E-X-X-Y! That string arrangement at the end just kills me every time.

A lot of people don't seem to like Stalk of Wheat. I'm not saying that EVERYBODY hates it and they're all against me, but a lot of people seem to think it's half-assed and stupid.

Nobody seems to like Sarah Vowell either...

Johnw - March 1, 2005 09:13 AM (GMT)
Something about S-E-X-X-Y, but I don't know what... anyway, I like it occasionally

Purple Toupee however, that is one brilliant song :rocks:

I like Stalk of Wheat (the moose song ).

gianthead - March 1, 2005 09:18 AM (GMT)
I can't find any interest in S-E-X-X-Y. The title sounds interesting but doesn't lead to much. Also violins is one of the few musical instruments that I detest.
I love Stalk of Wheat, though it still sounds like stalk of weed to me!!!!!

klimdeeni - March 1, 2005 02:19 PM (GMT)
I like SEXXY. It's very funny and has great music!
I have a few remixes of it, and love all of them!
and stalk of wheat is GREAT!!
people probably think it's half-ass because it sounds so kiddy and uses rhymes like money and bunny
but I like it a ton!
you can tell that thought went into it
And Purple Toupee?
IT'S GOLD!
I LOOOOVE that song
I evenquoted that song the other day to someone
and they were like WTF! but...they can go to hell!

LoveJohnX2 - March 1, 2005 04:20 PM (GMT)
Uh..wha? Did someone cough out my name? I thought I heard it..

Yes. Without the words, S-e-x-x-y would STILL be a great song. I just love the music behind it all. It's beautiful.

Plus, it makes a good TMBG name when you can't think of anything else and are pretending to be prideful (I don't REALLY walk around calling myself sexxy! Can you believe it? )

*low snarl*
Her books are wonderful but her voice makes me want to strangle her with a passion.

Silver2D - March 1, 2005 09:50 PM (GMT)
Her face looks like a cantaloupe...

And everyone I show SoW to (Non-TMBG fans) love it.

I don't know if that means it's a good song, or if it just appeals to the dumbed down, consumerist tastes of today's youth.

SweetAfton23 - March 2, 2005 05:06 AM (GMT)
And I will admit, she did use the word "bachanallian" like 3 times in a 10 minute span.

Doodles - March 2, 2005 06:47 AM (GMT)
YES! I'm not the only one who noticed!

Am I just ignorant or is there someone on else who doesn't know who she is so it can be explained to us please.
Bad grammer rules!!!!

Silver2D - March 2, 2005 09:53 PM (GMT)
She's some fat-head who follows TMBG around.

LoveJohnX2 - March 3, 2005 01:23 AM (GMT)
She's on Gigantic alot and she's strange and talks funny. Pretty annoying.

NOT AS ANNOYING AS SYD STRAW THOUGH!

SweetAfton23 - March 3, 2005 01:39 AM (GMT)
The thing is, if it were me being interviewed, I'd probably do the same thing.
Make up stories about myself and claim that I had sex with the Johns, that is.
You have to admit, Sarah Vowell didn't go THAT far.

What if we mixed Sarah Vowell and Syd Straw, and maybe, like, that McSweeney's guy who totally turned "Birdhouse" inside out? That'd be the TMBG associate from hell.

Guest - March 3, 2005 02:56 AM (GMT)
What about the guy who said "They'd always play that one song....um.... 'Don't don't don't let it start......uhh.....I've got a weak heart, or whatever the hell it is...."

<_<

SweetAfton23 - March 3, 2005 03:08 AM (GMT)
I also have a mild disliking for Robert Krulwich.
"Someone who is cleaning a vehicle that's going to go to the moon sneezes. -huhCHOO!-"
I was like, "Uhhh, thank you, Robert, it just so happens that I know what a sneeze is."
And his combover bothers me.

Doodles - March 3, 2005 08:08 PM (GMT)
His personality (and combover) irks me to no end.

mrhorrible - March 3, 2005 08:12 PM (GMT)
We got WAAAY OT here :|

Doodles - March 3, 2005 08:30 PM (GMT)
And that's unusual? :P

That really cracks me up for some reason. I never thought about it. Now, whenever I watch Gigantic, I'm gonna think about you saying that and laugh and laugh and laugh..

Uh..S-e-x-x-y is a good song! There! Back on topic!

..and laugh some more.

Doodles - March 5, 2005 04:41 PM (GMT)
S-E-X-X-Y is a good song, I'll give you that, but it doesn't really strike a chord with me. The song feels almost... I dunno... Restrained. It bothers me. The trumpets, guitar, and beat in the middle of the song suggest a faster pace, but it gets caught and returned to the original beat by the chorus returning. And I really don't like the way Flansy is singing... It sounds like his voice could catch in his throat any second.

I think the main reason of me not enjoying it too much lies in the fact that I believe it sounds like it would be the opening titles theme to a stereotypical bad retro movie. That's just the portrait it paints in my head. Can't you see it? The funky colours, the undercover "cool" detective in bellbottoms with an afro leaping over a car? That's what I'm getting...

I like S-E-X-X-Y. I don't have a deep explaination for it, I just like it.

That's true, I guess. But I can handle that to an extent. I can't seem to stomach is his voice in Extra Krispy, just because we all know what he actually sounds like and... I dunno. I just sorta agreed.

Silver2D - March 7, 2005 12:08 AM (GMT)
I thought that was a girl singing in Extra Krispy....

Doodles - March 7, 2005 12:28 AM (GMT)
There is. Flansy has a part in that song as well.

LoveJohnX2 - March 7, 2005 02:26 AM (GMT)
Yeah. That's his wife singing. And I don't know what all of you are talking about. I love how Flansburgh sings so different and I think it's fun to hear how he can sing next. There's nothing in the way he sings that I don't like.

Jen says you all are crazy.

gianthead - March 8, 2005 11:45 AM (GMT)
Uh, at the risk of sounding ignorant, what is Extra Krispy? :)

Johnw - March 8, 2005 12:45 PM (GMT)
It's a Mono Puff song.

LoveJohnX2 - March 9, 2005 02:08 AM (GMT)
Off of "It's Fun To Steal". Great song too.
