Title: ABC....kids music again?

Abby - February 15, 2005 12:03 PM (GMT)
Am I right in thinking ABC the new single (?) is for children? If so I have to admit to being a bit disappointed. our children are the future, yes, but They Might Be Giants are MY band, not my children's. If I wanted music aimed at children I could watch CBeebies till my brain turns to mush (oh dear it already happened!)

Sorry, it's bound to be a controversial opinion... I want more "Spine" and less "No!" style music from my fave band.

^_^ I agree with you on that one, but probably just cos I'm phobic of k*ds.

The Johns do their childrens' stuff very well, but they shouldn't over do it. Kids don't really need special music written for them, they can appreciate normal stuff wthout difficulty.

I think its more to do with the Johns' concerns about what childrens entertainment consists of, and the standards of literacy in the world.

I am all for anyone genuinely talented who genuinely cares about such issues doing what they think is good. And besides, I like the music. No! is not one of my favourites, and I doubt The ABCs will be either, but kudos to Them for their efforts.

i think it is great
also i dont belive they wont ever make a adult album as they put it

If it's such a children's album, why was Alphabet of Nations, (at the Astoria) described as "A song to help adults remember the alphabet in the most complicated way possible"?

Doodles - February 15, 2005 07:39 PM (GMT)
Because, as you may or may not know, adults always forget their alphabets. And travel locations.

They admit that the way they the way they made their songs is no different, the only thing that changes is the subject matter. So, I think it's very possible for an adult to still enjoy the kid's albums.

I really like I C U and Alphbet of Nations.

Exactly.

The new album is now one of my favorites... of all time... and I'm a legal adult.

Alphabet of Nations... E Eats Everything... Flying V... Fake-Believe... Can You Find It... Alphabet Lost and Found...

I want to hear those at my first TMBG concert, whenever that may be.

Johnw - May 27, 2005 06:01 PM (GMT)
E Eats Everything and Flying V are my favourites from ABC so far ^_^

Alphabet of Nations, Fake Believe, and Lost and Found are my favorites.

I don't mind at all that they do childrens disks because I like going to the kids concerts. They are usually free and the fans aren't as crazy!

I do wish they would space it out a bit more. I know they have talked about doing a 1,2,3's or something and another book, but I would like an adult album first. I need some songs to rock out to.

I'm a sucker for musicals. Wouldn't it be cool if they wrote a rock musical. I downloaded some of the music from people are wrong and i really liked it, but I never go to see the show. But, i think they would be really good at conveying stories through music.

Same here! That would rock. I think I'd fall over dead.

I guess People Are Wrong fits that category pretty well, but ultimately it's not a TMBG musical.

They do create such wonderful, sinister characters for their songs, so I can picture a TMBG Musical being pretty dark.

i agree also as well

Erm... not sure...

I love No now. Think it's spesh. Especially Four of Two, and House at The Top of A Tree, and Grocery Bag, and Robot Parade, and the "don't cross the street in the middle of the block song". Sorry - not so hot on names.

The ABCs hasn't grown on me yet. But I like Alphabet of Nations and E Eats Everything. And it is growing on me.

I know most of you would agree with me, but the one of the best things about Them is their impressive diverse creativity and I wouldn't want to impose any constraints on that at all. If they want to make kiddie music then yay for them. But yes, being someone whose employer will not stretch to regular Dial-A-Song calls, and who's still living with dial-up, I'd like to hear some more of the more adult stuff too. :halo:
