Very good album, I particularly like Memo to Human Resources, Prevenge, Some Crazy Bastard Wants to Hit Me, and Au Contraire. Most of them are really good, but I find Damn Good Times and Broke In Two a bit irritating and I usually skip them.
(I think I'd rate it 5/5 :D)

I think Museum of idiots is totally brilliant. Next best are Au Contraire and Stalk of wheat. Prevenge is good ... I tend to skip Spine, Some Crazy Bastard and Its Kickin In.

I pre-ordered it off of Amazon. I can't wait for it to get here, since I have heard lots of good things about it. :D

If you order from the TMBG Site you can get an extra 7 song EP for $3. The spine itself sells for $14 there also

Have you listened to 'memo to human resources' ? I think it's the best (2nd prevenge). i dunno if this forum is for interpretation theories, but i think it's about a guy who gatecrashed a party where there was a murder. he doesnt know if he did it because of the stuff he took. I'll be in the back (of the cop car)

you're meant to be this forum's offical interpreter :D

I listened to thirty second sound clips of each song and Museum of Idiots is my favorite.

Yes you can. It's $10 at the TMBG Yahoo Store.
Yes it's a CDR. No I haven't gotten the actual cover for it yet. It comes with a <rumor says Flans drawn but I've not heard it confirmed> paper cover with instructions on how to get the real one when it's made. But all in all it's worth what I paid.
The way I see it I'm paying for the music not the packaging.
Plus there is a Linnell made Flash video on the CD which I liked better than the Homestar Runner one for experimental film. (*Possibly because I like "I'm all you can think about" better than "Experimental Film")

The Spine - it's a brilliant album.
Museum of Idiots is the best track on it (the arrangement is incredible, even by TMBG standards!), but I also love Experimental Film, Memo to etc. and Broke in Two.
In fact, the only track I skip is Wearing A Raincoat, which irritates me more than a Giants' track has ever done before.
:rocks:
fingertipsjjddm - January 13, 2005 06:29 PM (GMT)
I actually think quite the opposite. Can't stand museum of idiots, but don't mind wearing a raincoat. The only song i truly despise is I can't hide from my mind. I don't get it, i don't like it... i don't listen too it. Au contraire can be a bit annoying after some time as well. Damn Good times and Experimental Film and It's Kickin In are my favorites

On the song "They Might Be Giants" there is a line that says "They might be frying up a stalk of wheat..." so were They referring to their own song by doing Stalk of Wheat? What does anyone think? I don't know what a stalk of wheat is, what it looks like or how one would fry it up.
Doodles - February 13, 2005 04:02 PM (GMT)
Quite correct Abby. They were referring to themselves in it.
Spy - February 19, 2005 12:31 AM (GMT)
They were not only referring to themselves, but referring to themselves referring to themselves, because of the name of the first song.

 I was thinking about this one the other day, the unique flexibility of thought that goes into these silly things. Take the idea of a stalk of wheat - a wheat plant, ear, root and all, and - fry it?? And then say that they may be that if they are or aren't giants?
If they write 600 songs a year, as I have heard, how do they stop the ideas coming for long enough to sleep?

Evidently they don't
:music: I hear the melody the harmony the pounding rhythm
The ideas, notes and words
Every state a different composition
Keeping me awake
Late at night
Can't get them out of my mind :music:

Reminds me of frying baby corns for a stir-fry. ^_^

I love The Spine, it became my favourite TMBG album to listen to as an album rather than a collection of songs (if that makes sense....?)
The only track I sometimes skip is Broke In Two. At the moment I think my favourite track is It's Kickin' In, followed closely by Bastard Wants To Hit Me.
mrhorrible - March 27, 2005 09:29 PM (GMT)
Now, It's kickin' in is one of the few I often flick past. But I daresay after a while it might grow on me. Took forever for me to like End of The Tour ....

WOW! I loved the End of the Tour 1st time I ever heard it.
I don't much like Kickin' In or Broke in Two, though Broke In Two does grow on you. ^_^
Johnw - March 29, 2005 08:30 AM (GMT)
Broke in Two does grow on you... I really like it now.
Don't like Kickin' In so much... I listen to it occasionally and laugh because I think of the video with the chicken
foskat - April 26, 2005 02:11 AM (GMT)
I didn't much care for it's kickin in until i saw them play it live...like so many of their other songs. when i hear it with that added energy, i can hear it that way when i listen to it later.
my favorite song on the spine though, is museum of idiots. wow. so great. experimental film is hilarious and wearing a raincoat is awesome and au contraire is just so fun. i think i need to see them all live though.
John Henry - May 8, 2005 08:51 PM (GMT)
Prevenge And Wearing A Raincote are my favorites
STATUE - June 2, 2005 04:18 AM (GMT)
the spine is a BOOOOO kind of album
its nothing compared to apollo18 or john henry or flood
NOTHING
teddyleevin - May 22, 2006 02:53 AM (GMT)
This is (out of the 5 I own) my favorite TMBG album tied with Apollo 18. I think it's marvelous. It's not as consistent as Apollo 18 but The Spine has some better songs than it. I can't live without eather one!
