Title: Rate the CD I made
Description: But be nice!

LoveJohnX2 - October 2, 2004 03:47 PM (GMT)
I forgot about this. A few months ago, I made my friend, Casey, a mixed CD with my favorite TMBG songs to try to get her into them. I made a list of my favorite songs from each CD and actually, I didn't get to use all of them. I ended up making TWO CDs and didn't want to make another one..considering she wasn't even sure if she would like them. Anyway, I put up the list of songs, on my journal, that were on her CDs and REALLY wanted someone to look it over and see what they thought about my song selections..but nobody ever did! (Here's the exact link if you're interested)

So..your mission, if you choose to accept: Check out the songs I put on her CDs and tell me what you think. What do you think I should have added and taken off? Remember, I had NO more room..so..if you think I should've added something..you better tell me what I should've taken off too.

After listening to my CDs, she just thinks they're "okay". :(

CD one:
1. Untitled ("They sound like all kinds of people, right?")
2. Au Contraire
3. I Should be Allowed to Think
4. No!
5. The Guitar
6. Older
7. Lie Still, Little Bottle
8. Metal Detector
9. How can I Sing Like a Girl?
10. She's actual Size (Live)
11. Birdhouse
12. Turn Around
13. Robot Parade
14. Ana Ng (Live)
15. Hovering Sombrero
16. Snail Shell
17. Ant
18. Drink!
19. Lucky Ball and Chain
20. Four of Two
21. They Got Lost
22. Why does the Sun Shine?(Live..I'd have it no other way)
23. Don't Let's Start
24. Dinner Bell
25. The End of the Tour

CD two:
1. The Statue got me High
2. I'll Sink Manhattan
3. Escape from the Planet of the Apes
4. Cage and Aquarium
5. Hide Away Folk Family
6. Instanbul (I only threw this on there because she asked for it!)
7. Rhythm Section Want Ad
8. 32 Footsteps
9. Become a Robot
10. Stand on your own Head
11. Destination Moon
12. John Lee Supertaster
13. S-e-x-x-y
14. Whistling in the Dark
15. Narrow your Eyes
16. Spider (Live)
17. I can Hear you
18. Hey, Mr DJ, I Thought you said we had a Deal
19. Mink Car
20. If I wasn't Shy
21. Thermostat
22. Twisting
23. Spiraling Shape
24. Beneath the Planet of the Apes
25. First Kiss (Live)
26. Snowball in Hell
27. Pet Name
28. Absolutely Bill's Mood
29. The Bells are Ringing
30. Schoolchildren singing 'Particle Man'

Oh yeah. I didn't have The Spine or The Spine Surfs Alone yet at this time..so keep that in mind. And be nice! I spent ALOT of time making those CDs. I made covers and everything.

Pretty good :music:

These I would have missed out:

Lie Still, Little Bottle
Ant (Unless it's the great version which is on the Indestructable Object)
All "Planet of the Apes" tracks
S-e-x-x-y

Can't think of any I would have added at the moment, maybe I'll post later.

Marshie - October 3, 2004 03:27 PM (GMT)
OH but you left out some of my favorites!

I'd add Self Called Nowhere, Where your eyes don't go, Museum of Idiots, They'll Need a Crane, She's an Angel...I dunno if this counts since its a side project but I love South Carolina off State Songs. Oh I just noticed you didn't have Spine, so I'll forgive you for Museum not being on there :D

I dunno what I'd take off though, probably the planet of the apes ones, cage and aquarium, and sexxy but thats just my opinion.

Aside from leaving out some GREAT songs, I think you did pretty well! :)

gianthead - October 3, 2004 08:19 PM (GMT)
Good. :)
From the first CD, I would have missed the children's songs (except why does the sun shine) and Untitled. The tracks labelled 7,8,9 aren't so good ( numbers for brevity). 3, 18, and 25 are excellent choices.

I'm grading these on their fan-catching quality, so don't start pointing out what great songs some are cos I know.

gianthead - October 3, 2004 08:35 PM (GMT)
^_^ 2nd CD

miss: 2, 3, 9, 12, 21, 30
I'm not sure about some of the others.

great choices:1, 7, 14, 18, 23, 25, 28

Songs you should have included (my opinion) on either album; Dead, You'll Miss Me, Chess Piece Face, She's an Angel, Crane... darnloadsa stuff.

Spy - October 3, 2004 10:46 PM (GMT)
I don't actually know all the tracks (blush) so I'd have to think or listen a bit more before I can give an opinion on the overall packege.

But I'm sure I'd go as bananas as anyone here trying to choose 2 CD's worth of TMBG, so well done for doing it at all. :P The End of the Tour should have been track 1, it would keep anyone listening. I'd miss out Spider, No!, Older, Istanbul (if I could).

I'd add Everything Right is Wrong Again, Put your Hand Inside the Puppet Head, She's An Angel... and others. As the Gianthead says. Don't let's start.

Good selection.

I'll have to find my "Selected Favorites" TMBG CD I made as a sample in my dad's college course he teaches and show it to you. I had to pick out the tracks, design a package and all this stuff, it was really fun. (They're not really my favorites, it's just songs I think most people would have heard.)

Oh yeah, Jen, keep reminding me to make you a CD with all the music I wrote on it.

LoveJohnX2 - October 4, 2004 06:12 AM (GMT)
Oh, actually I don't have State Songs either..

And Lie Still Little Bottle turned out to be her favorite song.

mrhorrible - October 4, 2004 10:13 AM (GMT)
There are many songs which will draw differing opinions. I would ask, where were She's an Angel, They'll Need A Crane? Why include Supertaster or The Guitar?

But we all have different tastes in the same band's music, and that is beautiful.

davew27 - October 4, 2004 02:04 PM (GMT)
i made myself a cd the other day

i will post a list of tracks

LoveJohnX2 - October 4, 2004 06:49 PM (GMT)
Well, Supertaster became one of my favorite songs right after I went to the concert in Columbus and heard it live. The Guitar..I'm not even sure anymore. I'm kinda sick of that song now.

She's An Angel was one of the ones that was on my list, but didn't make it to the final cut when I had to chop some out. They'll need a Crane just isn't one of my favorites though. Simple as that.

Oh, and whoever told me about the Planet of the Apes things..I love those two. I wanted her to hear the funny, live, random stuff they do.

LoveJohnX2 - October 4, 2004 06:53 PM (GMT)
It's all about opinions, I guess.

Marshie - October 4, 2004 07:12 PM (GMT)
Well the great thing about TMBG is that you can't really pick a bad song. Even the ones I skip I don't think are -bad- just I'm either tired of them cause I played them too much or they just aren't my cup of tea. I know a lot of people hate Thermostat, but I can listen to that song all day long, I love it. And like I said, other than leaving out a few of my favorite songs, I think you did pretty good! Nice range of their different stuff. I hope your friend liked her CD.

Oh and I looked at your journal...would you mind if I stole some of your icons for my livejournal? I won't use them here since they're yours.

LoveJohnX2 - October 4, 2004 07:24 PM (GMT)
Ooooo mine? Nupe, I don't care at all..just lemme know which ones you're taking..'cause I'm curious!

I'm in the middle of making some more right now.

Marshie - October 4, 2004 07:32 PM (GMT)
I took the one of Linnell laughing, and the one from puppet head. I'm a sucker for a good linnell icon :D Let me know when you make new ones! Oh and I love your journal layout. Mine is www.livejournal.com/users/sjmarsha/

Doodles - October 4, 2004 07:35 PM (GMT)
LOL Your journal has the TMBG caricature from Rocktoons.com. Gotta love it.

LoveJohnX2 - October 4, 2004 07:38 PM (GMT)
Thank you! I feel so special that someone likes my icons. Well, this is off topic (BUT I MADE THE TOPIC SO :P ) if you click on greatestjournal info, then click on the Ana Ng icon on the right (my default icon right now) it'll show you all my icons..just in case you didn't know that. I have quite a few TMBG ones, but most were made for me.

LoveJohnX2 - October 4, 2004 07:40 PM (GMT)
Yeah. I love your layout too!

Marshie - October 4, 2004 07:58 PM (GMT)
Ahh it won't let me upload the animated ones of puppet head or dr worm :censored: stupid live journal has a 40k limit. BAH.

I love the Linnell SEXXY one, won't let me steal it though 'sigh. Not a good day for icons for me I suppose :)

You can see my journal icons HERE if you want.

LoveJohnX2 - October 4, 2004 08:02 PM (GMT)
Greatest journal has 60k space. Plus, I can try to make the file smaller for you if you like..

That would ROCK but you don't have to. I'm sure its a pain to make them in the first place. You can let me steal the SEXXY one though ;) It won't let me right click on that page to take it.

What's with you and these "ghosty-lookin'" pictures? It's freaky. ;)

gianthead - October 7, 2004 02:06 PM (GMT)
Looks like the sort I used to take witha film camera before I got a real one, usually I forgot and left the film door open or something.

LoveJohnX2 - October 7, 2004 06:05 PM (GMT)
I dunno. Stupid flashes I guess. But, they WERE with a digital camera. Well, atleast the ghost picture of me was. I dunno..I think my Elvis was too.
