Description: what d'you think of them
gianthead - September 13, 2004 01:47 PM (GMT)
What do you guys think of Snow Patrol,? I only noticed them a while ago, then I found everyone else knew them. arh!!!!! B) though
mrhorrible - September 13, 2004 02:58 PM (GMT)
Final Straw is one of the most perfect albums ever made .... well, certainly in the last few years.
Kate - September 23, 2004 06:20 PM (GMT)
Everyone's just so nice here...
I feel awful in some ways saying this, but I am an opinionated cow. So...
I think they're dreary. I'm quite fussy about my indie and I just think they're a bit dull really. But then I hate most modern indie, so it's hardly surprising.
I like Franz Ferdinand though, if that's allowed. I'm just about young enough that I don't remember the '80s band that I'm sure they sound exactly like, if that makes sense.
StrayToaster - September 23, 2004 06:25 PM (GMT)
No, Snow Patrol are dreary. I remember chatting with them when they were on a digital satelltie show that no one watched here in Norn Iron way back in, um, 2000. (I was on a panel discussion of mow mp3s would bring down the WORLD! Yes, back then.)
*yawn* I would be more than fussy about my music, I am a total indie snob elitist type. (I know, TMBG sorta goes against that grain.)
FF are good, though I remember the band that they sound like from the 80s.
Johnw - September 23, 2004 06:35 PM (GMT)
I quite like Franz Ferdinand B)
What 80s band do they sound just like? <_<
mrhorrible - September 23, 2004 06:40 PM (GMT)
Franz Ferdinand remind me of XTC, Gang of Four, Wire and a few other edgy bands of the early to mid 80s. Still like them though, and I will admit to being an indie snob of many years. And maybe Snow Patrol are dreary, but that album worked for me. Not all of it is in the same style.
LoveJohnX2 - September 25, 2004 01:13 AM (GMT)
Oooo I LOVE Franz Ferdinand. They're stuck in my head right now.
As for snow Patrol, my friend listens to them. She hated them at first but she said the second time she listened to it..it wasn't so bad. Now I think she just went to their concert, I believe.
mrhorrible - September 25, 2004 02:24 AM (GMT)
Final Straw is an ideal album for relationship breakups. So in a way, that may be depressing or dull, but at the same time one can take a great deal of heart from it. It also contains some quality riffage and some pleasant strings. And who else would start a song with the line "I broke into your house last night"? I hail these dreary Scottish indiemeisters, who will no doubt go on to break America and become rich pretentious :censored: a la Coldplay.

Woo hoo! Now you're talking my language... I despise Coldplay with a quite fearsome passion. I even leave rooms when their songs are played.

I noticed you liked Coldplay (interests, long list), I was going to post about that as I do like them as well. :)

I feel exactly that way!! I sometimes think they're faintly like lots different bands mixed together, watered down and soaked in sugary syrup. -_-
mrhorrible - September 26, 2004 12:53 PM (GMT)
I wasn't commenting on the quality of Coldplay's music, more on their social status in Hollywood .... I like some Coldplay, but very little.

Let's conclude the Snow Patrol / Coldplay discussion with some songs of both bands worth hearing:
Snow Patrol: Spitting Games, Chocolate, Run.
Coldplay: Shiver, Spies, Clocks.
Thank you all very much
LoveJohnX2 - September 27, 2004 04:39 AM (GMT)
With Coldplay..I like that song about burning the house down. I forgot what it's called. And I'm too lazy to get up and get the CD.
Johnw - September 27, 2004 08:42 AM (GMT)
Run is THE best song by Snow Patrol! Also "How To Be Dead" is one of my favourites from that album. Don't like Spitting Games so much since I heard the other ones though.
Coldplay: My favourite song by them is The Scientist, also I like "Clocks", "In My Place", and "Yellow" and "Trouble" from the other album.

I like Run (track 7) Final Straw. B)
LoveJohnX2 - October 4, 2004 05:59 AM (GMT)
I'm hearing Snow Patrol on the radio a whole lot lately. Before that, I only knew them through my freind.
gianthead - October 4, 2004 11:42 AM (GMT)
B) I wasn't sure if they had hit the US, but it seems so then. Great
gianthead - October 4, 2004 11:44 AM (GMT)
I hate people comparing Snow Patrol with Coldplay. Yeah I know they both freeze you to death, but colplay is a lot slushier.
mrhorrible - October 4, 2004 11:59 AM (GMT)
Again, you should listen to Shiver on Coldplay's first album. That's not slushy.
To people who like eihter of these bands, you should examine the works of Teenage Fanclub (direct influence on Snow Patrol), and Jeff Buckley (Coldplay and Muse have made careers out of his style).

Anybody want to talk about Muse? :music: :music: :music:
I have all 3 of their albums. :)
mrhorrible - March 30, 2006 03:26 PM (GMT)
to wake this topic up again, I have been listening to the new album. A couple of songs are growing on me. I'll report back later.
