Title: Favorite OS?

Banana - September 11, 2004 01:59 AM (GMT)
I use Windows, and it hasn't given me any problems.

Macs are poopy. O_o;;;

Doodles - September 11, 2004 03:43 AM (GMT)
Macs aren't poopy. I've had my iBook for over a year now and I've never had to restart it. Never. Besides can a Windblows machine fit inside one neat and tidy monitor? I think not.

Read about the glory of the new iMac G5 here.

As a sidenote, don't even get me started. I can argue over this for weeks.

Johnw - September 11, 2004 08:03 AM (GMT)
I use Windows most of the time, but I like Linux better. :)

Banana - September 11, 2004 03:43 PM (GMT)
The reason I dislike Macs is because every one I've used crashed on me. Noe of them have ever worked very well for me.

gianthead - September 11, 2004 09:35 PM (GMT)
Windows cos I acn't be bothered. Windows provides everything (just about) and I think people who use other OSs on 'moral grounds' (eg Bill G is a crook or something) are thick.

Don't you think that such abstract things (as monopolies, megalomania) might have an effect on the overall ethos of the thing, which might have an effect on how... Windows drives one crazy? N'est-ce pas?

Don't mind me. I use it, don't I?

*coughs and mumbles* bill gates is a crook... *coughs* But that's not why I don't use Windows.

For some reason, whenever I use Windows machines I always feel limited. They're not flexible enough for me. I respect that everyone uses computers for different reasons, and Windows is a very money-wise choice for a family computer used for everyday enjoyment and entertainment. Windows is not however, in my opinion, suited to be used for a professional module. They have too many flaws security wise, and the media output and media flexibility aren't all that great. It's fine for a average-joe business, but for the work I do on the side of school, Macs are the way to go for graphic designing and music-mixing.

I respect Windows all the same though. It's a computer and all computers should be treated equally because they're all an admirable attempt mankind has made to further technology.

In short, perhaps, Macs are for artsy-fartsy people who don't give a damn about price as long as the machine looks good and does what they want it to do. Admit it, Window's is rather bland in it's multiple shades of black and grey.

Yes, these black and grey smilies are really bland

Oh, is the souped up multicoloured water cooled pc case not big in the US yet?

For the record, I am a Mac fan. Have been since my early days using the internet on a state of the art 14.4k modem  And Linux is ok, but ultimately Windows pays my wages.

Johnw - September 27, 2004 03:09 PM (GMT)
Never had the chance to be a mac fan, never used one in my life :(

Doodles - September 27, 2004 03:17 PM (GMT)
Growing up with Macs has really helped me become biased in the world of computers. I think my current total of computers in my house is 39. And I'm proud to say that they're all Macs.

Spy - September 27, 2004 03:18 PM (GMT)
39 Macs! What for? Send us a spare. :o

Johnw - September 27, 2004 03:19 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I could do with one of them! B)

39 :shocking:

Doodles - September 27, 2004 03:24 PM (GMT)
We collect them. The models range from the original Apple II to the latest G5. We just started finding old Apples at the local flea-markets and stuff, so we decided to rescue them and give them a good home. I myself, own four of them. A G4 laptop, a Apple Power PC, an Apple II, and a Power Mac G3. But I love them all...

mrhorrible - September 27, 2004 03:26 PM (GMT)
I currently have 3 PCs in my house, and my server and two other pcs in my previous house, joined together using the vpn function on the routers in each house. Effectively a private WAN of six Windows machines. I want a Mac!

Spy - September 27, 2004 03:26 PM (GMT)
A pound of Apples please!

Johnw - September 27, 2004 03:28 PM (GMT)
:music: Everybody wants a mac...

Have you tried checking the refurbished computers at Apple's online store? Since they have a new product line out, a bunch of them are getting cheaper.

mrhorrible - September 27, 2004 03:30 PM (GMT)
It's the money, you see. I guess if I was going to have one I would have an iBook, and if it wasn't the newest I'd get annoyed.

Why would you get annoyed? With the free software updates, your computer should stay up to par with the others until they release much faster hardware... But, that might just be your own personal thing, I won't prod at it.

mrhorrible - September 27, 2004 03:35 PM (GMT)
Always hardware concerns. Always. Lets not go there.

The point that I was making
I said if I was smart that I would
Save up for a piece of string
And a Mac to wind the string around :music:

I might too, but I'd be saving for a while!

Okay, I won't.

Johnw - September 27, 2004 03:43 PM (GMT)
I will have a Mac eventually, even if I have to make heads roll to get it <evil cackle>

Here's a questions for those of you who use both mac's and windows.

How similar are the two OS's.

I've been using PC's all my life and am really familiar with them. Everything I've learned about computer hardware resolves around PC's. But, my impatience has led me to want to try an iBook when my IBM thinkpad dies. Which it probably will before I get to college. Is it hard to change OS's? Will it take a while to get used to the new one?

Doodles - March 17, 2005 08:05 PM (GMT)
Oh. My. God. OSX is so ridiculously easy to use it's not funny. You shouldn't have a problem adapting to it, and if any do arise, Apple has terrific support pages and such.

You've learned the complicated hardware and software. It's time to come into the light and see how :censored: easy things really are. ;) :P

Apple. Heee hee

I use both Windows and Mac OSX on a daily basis (Windows at work, Macs at home) and, to be honest, the only thing that annoys me when switching between the systems is the different positions of the maximise/minimise/close buttons! I voted Mac.

Johnw - June 4, 2005 08:08 PM (GMT)
I recently managed to confuse teh GerryW with that, by applying a Mac skin to Windows XP... :P

Closest I've got to using a mac so far :(

HOW CAN THAT BE POSSIBLE! Only 8 computers in my house! ALL PCs! :( (I own 3)

My computers are: (Name: Processor, RAM, OS (Year made))
Evesham Quest A215: AMD Sempron 3000+ (Really 1800Mhz) 512mb RAM, Windows XP (2006)
Packard Bell somethingorother: Intel Pentium II 233Mhz, 96mb RAM, Windows 98SE (1997)
British Telecom thingy: Intel 8088 I dunno how fast, I dunno how much RAM, DOS 6.22 (I think) (1986)

I have a nice skin for Windows XP, though :) It's soooooooo good!
